301 Useless Facts

Click here for 301 Useless Facts.

There are some gems in there such as:

  • Ketchup was sold in the 1830's as medicine.
  • Most lipsticks contain fish scales.
  • Giraffes and rats can last longer without water than camels.

A lot of these are downright incorrect, as a quick Snopes-check will show, but most of them are pretty amusing to read.

Fun stuff for a quiet afternoon when I needed a break from my "Horse Buyer's Guide" and "Horse Transportation Guide" writing. :)

    Our First Anniversary

We had a fantastic anniversary weekend playing around in California. We went to Hollywood on Friday, visiting the Grauman's Chinese Theater, then the Walk of Fame and checked out who had stars where. We ate at Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles -- best breakfast ever!

Then we went to the La Brea Tar Pits. Definitely eerie, the pond bubbled up with asphalt in big, elastic bubbles. After that we went to the LA County Museum of Art and looked at their permanent Japanese art collection. I wanted to see a little more Kabuki-style art, but mostly they had a lot of scrolls and sculptures. Learned a bit while we were there though, so it was fun.

Chuck bought me a new digital camera - a Canon Exilim Z75. I love it! It's 7.2 megapixels and thin thin thin -- perfect purse size, snaps fast, clean photos too!

We went to Medieval Times in Buena Park on Friday night and had front row seats, it was SO much fun. The food was fantastic as well. Our knight threw me a carnation :) The next day we hit Six Flags Magic Mountain. The crowds were horrible, but we did get to ride all of the new coasters they had, like "X" and "Tatsu". "Tatsu" felt like skydiving, it was more or less the feel of free flight! Both rollercoasters were so unique -- they were nothing like any coasters we've ever been on... the new coasters don't keep you "strapped to the ground" so much as just harnessed in but essentially free floating -- pretty amazing stuff! The new coasters are so incredibly smooth now too, no tooth-rattling brain shakers. Despite the crowds, we had a lot of fun.

And I Thought Tulsa Was Cold

I just spent the past week in Columbus, Ohio. That has got to be the worst city ever. The temperature was a constant 35-38 degrees since last Wednesday. Beyond that -- rain. Rain was the second constant. Everything from a steady drizzle to downright pouring. Rain at 38 degrees doesn't get much colder than that. At that point, I was praying for snow just because it'd be more tolerable. And like Tulsa, the wind blasts through there around 25 mph.

The horse trade show (Equine Affaire) was busy, but by Sunday afternoon, my social skills were all used up so I was about to resort to primate grunting and scowling.

I was more than happy to hop a plane on Monday morning so I could be back in the happy, sunny warmth that is Arizona. Next time I go to Columbus, I'm taking a heavy heavy winter coat. I checked the weather prior to the trip and it said 50's, light rain. That's not bad. 50's I wish!

    Poke Plate

More reasons why I <3 Arizona... today for lunch I went to L&L and ordered the "Poke Plate" (for you white people, that's pronounced poh-key). About 1/3rd pound of raw fish, two scoops rice, 1 scoop macaroni salad. I'm ready for a NAP!

Quiet uneventful weekend finally. It was nice being lazy after the past six Saturday/Sundays being full of festivals and events. We saw the movie "300" on Saturday. A bit gritty and explicit, but it was good. Then Sunday afternoon we saw "Blades of Glory". I laughed through that entire movie, it was hilarious!

Got Farcry for Wii on sale last week for $19.95. Haven't played it yet. I heard the graphics aren't that great, but the FPS playability was pretty good. Might give that a test run this week. :)
